About German language level (A1-C1)

At the Annemarie-Schimmel-Haus (ASH) you can learn German from basic till advanced levels through our progressively structured courses. Levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 & C2 described below refer to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR).

BEGINNERS’ LEVEL COURSES:

Level A1:
Course duration: approx. 10 weeks. teaching units = 140, Unit per minutes = 45

Can understand and use familiar, everyday expressions and very simple sentences. Can introduce him/herself and others as well as ask others about themselves. This exam following this A1 level is mandatory when applying for the family reunion visa at the German Embassy Islamabad.

Level A2:
Course duration: approx. 10 weeks. teaching units = 150, Unit per minutes = 45

Can understand sentences and commonly used expressions associated with topics directly related to his/her direct circumstances.

ADVANCED LEVEL COURSES:

Level B1:
Course duration: approx. 12 weeks. teaching units = 160, Unit per minutes = 45

Can understand the main points when clear, standard language is used and the focus is on familiar topics associated with work, school, leisure time, etc. Can deal with most situations typically encountered when travelling in the language’s region.

Level B2:
Course duration: approx. 14 weeks. teaching units = 200, Unit per minutes = 45

Can understand the main contents of complex texts on concrete and abstract topics. Can communicate so spontaneously and fluently that a normal conversation  with native speakers is easily possible without a great deal of effort on either side.

SUPER ADVANCED LEVEL COURSES:

Level C1:
Course duration: approx. 14 weeks. teaching units = 200, Unit per minutes = 45

Can understand a wide range of challenging, longer texts and also grasp implicit meanings. Can use the language effectively in his/her social and professional life or in training and studies.

Level C2:
Course duration: approx. 14 weeks. teaching units = 200, Unit per minutes = 45

Can effortlessly understand everything which he/she reads or hears. Can express him/her self spontaneously with fluency and precision and also make finer nuances of meaning clear in more complex topics.

Preparation Courses for level A1:
Course duration: approx. 2 weeks. teaching units = 30, Unit per minutes = 45

We also offer a ten-day preparation class for level A1 every month prior to the examination date. This courses prepares you for the internationally recognized examinations of the Goethe-Institut. You will be introduced to every part of the exam and practice using actual material. We will also share some helpful exam techniques.
